Newcastle join Borussia Dortmund in chase for RB Salzburg star

Newcastle United have joined Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Sevilla amid a host of sides on the trail of RB Salzburg star Noah Okafor.

Like Karim Adeyemi, Okafor has impressed at the Red Bull club during their Champions League games, scoring 3 times in his 6 outings. Able to play anywhere across the front 3, it seems that his time in Austria may be coming to an end this summer, as interest ramps up.

And newly-minted Newcastle are the latest club to show an interest in the forward, according to German outlet Sport Bild. There is an expectation that the Swiss forward moves on this summer, and Salzburg are thought to be looking for a fee in and around 25 million euros for their talent.

However, Newcastle will have to hope that they can sell their project to the 21-year-old in the face of interest from other, more prestigious sides around Europe.

Newcastle target project youth?

While first and foremost Newcastle's January business was aimed at keeping them in the Premier League (Something it seems to have achieved since the beginning of 2022 with a brilliant run of form), their targets betrayed a much longer view of their additions.

Links with both Sven Botman and Hugo Ekitike (22 and 19 years old respectively) show a much longer-term plan that the new owners of the Magpies are trying to implement, and 21 year old Okafor would certainly fit the bill.

Alongside the likes of Bruno Guimaraes (24) and Joe Willock (22), there could well be a young and exciting core at Newcastle come the 2022/23 season.
