Jones has overseen a run of six defeats from seven games since he became Ralph Hasenhuttl’s successor in November, with Southampton sitting rock bottom of the Premier League and three points from safety.
His latest outing saw the Saints smashed 3-0 by Brentford on Saturday, with many fans calling for him the be sacked.
Jones defended himself after the match, suggesting compromises had cost him:
“I’ve compromised,” he said. “I’ve compromised in terms of certain principles because of one, personnel, but two, the way that people want to play and so on.
“I’ve compromised because of fans, and so on, a few little things but - no more. I’ve been very successful playing a fluent style, Luton were a real aggressive front-footed side. Statistically, there weren’t many better than me around Europe in terms of aggression, clean sheets, defending the box, balls in the box, xG, all those sort of things.”
Now, as per Betfair, Jones is the heavy favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked.
Next Premier League manager to leave their role
- Nathan Jones: 2/9 (was 14/1 before Saturday’s Brentford defeat)
- Jesse Marsch: 10/3
- Gary O’Neil: 12/1
- Graham Potter: 16/1
- Brendan Rodgers: 16/1
- David Moyes: 20/1
- Jurgen Klopp: 20/1
- No Manager To Leave: 25/1
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Nathan Jones has been heavily backed into odds-on at 2/9 to be the next Premier League manager to lose their job. The Welshman had been 14/1 to go next before Southampton’s 3-0 loss to Brentford, however, a run of six defeats from seven league games has massively changed his odds. Jesse Marsch follows behind at 10/3 to be the next Premier League manager to leave, with Gary O’Neil 12/1 and Graham Potter 16/1.”
