Montpellier chief confirms in-demand striker ‘likes Arsenal a lot’

The president of Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier has, on Saturday, hinted that star man Elye Wahi would be keen on a move to England, with Arsenal.

For those not aware, the future of hitman Wahi has taken its place front and centre in the French media headlines leading into the summer.

This comes with the 20-year-old fresh off a stellar campaign in his home country, which saw him rack up 19 goals and six assists in 33 league appearances.

Such production, in turn, has piqued inevitable interest from across the continent, with a whole host of European football’s heavyweights understood to be keeping tabs on Wahi with a view to next season.

And one such club may well boast an advantage in the sweepstakes for the gifted youngster.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

One such spot comes up top, with Wahi having been tipped as a potential replacement for Eddie Nketiah, should the Englishman finally be deemed not up to the standard required of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

And the Frenchman himself, it would appear, would be keen on the prospect of a move to north London.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin was drawn on the future of La Pallaide’s crown jewel.

And, after first confirming that his agent is currently in the thick of discussions with a number of ‘big’ clubs, Nicollin went on to reveal that Wahi ‘likes Arsenal a lot’.
