Mikel Arteta makes Martin Odegaard claim Arsenal fans will love

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made an interesting claim regarding Martin Odegaard recently.

The 23-year-old would be signed by Arsenal on a permanent basis in the January window.

Odegaard has re-joined an Arsenal attack that is becoming increasingly reliant on young talent.

All of Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are 21 or under, making Odegaard the oldest of Arsenal’s burgeoning young attacking talent.

And now, Mikel Arteta has claimed that Odegaard has all the qualities to be a captain:

“Martin has all the qualities to be a captain, absolutely. I have talked to his national team coach Stale Solbakken and they speak highly of him,” Arteta told reporters after Saturday’s game.

Given Arsenal’s issues with their captain picks of late (Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang), perhaps someone like Odegaard is exactly what Arsenal need.

Arsenal vs Wolves

Odegaard and Arsenal will now turn their attentions towards Wolves, whom they are set to face on Thursday the 24th of February.

The Gunners head into the midweek action sitting 6th in the Premier League table.

However, the north Londoners could yet overtake both West Ham and Manchester United by winning their games in hand.

Wolves, though, will prove no pushovers. Bruno Lage’s side are currently 8th in the Premier League, and have won four of their last five league outings.

They are also just five points behind Arsenal in the table, meaning Thursday’s tie is a must-win for Arteta and co.
