Arsenal ended their 2022/23 campaign in style on Sunday afternoon when they put five past Wolves.
At the start of the campaign, Arsenal finishing second would have been somewhat surprising given they have not been in the top-four for several years.
However, the fact Arsenal spent so long top of the league and did not win the title has put something of a damper on their campaign as a whole, especially as they did not win any silverware.
Now, speaking after Arsenalβs hammering of Wolves, Mikel Arteta has been discussing their campaign and set his side a challenge for the 2023/24 season:
βWe wanted to bring the club back to the Champions League. That was the main target,β said Arteta.
βThat was obviously a big demand in the summer before we did certain things and before we managed to keep some of our players.
βThen you start to generate some belief. We didnβt expect to finish where we are. I think itβs the third best record in the club, with the history of the club, the most wins ever.
βItβs a lot but itβs still not enough to win it. We understand where the level is. If we want to be the real deal, we canβt be happy with what we have, and we have to be next season much better.β
Arsenal finished five points off Manchester City who themselves had a slightly poor season by their lofty standards, only getting 89 points.
