Chelsea have now spent around £1b on players in the last three transfer windows but their form does not reflect that.

The Blues are 14th in the table after five games having won just one match, which was against a poor Luton side.

Such poor form at the start of the campaign has already led to speculation that Pochettino could be sacked.

But when speaking ahead of facing Aston Villa, the Argentine suggested he still has support from the club.

Pochettino said of Boehly: “We talk. We talk with the sporting directors — they are supporting the project. They are not disappointed because we have similar feelings about the project.

“We are playing well but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. That is the most important thing in football. It’s difficult to find data that says Chelsea is not on the top [of chance creation].

“The only way to find what we want is to keep pushing, keep playing. I am so happy with how the team felt after Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. They really care and they really want to win games and I think this week was good to work hard.”
