Liverpool vs Chelsea: Premier League preview
Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League this Saturday.
Chelsea begin the weekend 3rd in the table, nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City. Three points and two places behind the Blues, a win for Liverpool would see them move level with their opponents.
Both sides were in midweek Champions League action but had contrasting fortunes. Liverpool squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 late on in Sevilla.
A brace from Roberto Firmino and one from Sadio Mane saw Jurgen Klopp’s side go into the break at the Sanchez Pizjuan with a seemingly comfortable lead before their second-half collapse.
Liverpool remain top of their Champions League group, despite the result, although qualification to the knockouts is not yet confirmed.
The result puts an end to Liverpool’s four-match winning streak. Last weekend the Reds won 3-0 against Southampton with goals from Mohamed Salah (2) and Philippe Coutinho.
Chelsea booked their place in the Round of 16 with a 4-0 win at Qarabag on Wednesday. Converted penalties from Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, as well as a brace from Willian, sealed the victory.
The win follows on from last weekend’s 4-0 win at West Brom, where Hazard scored a brace.
