Will Andre Gomes remain at Everton permanently?
Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands has provided an update on the clubs hope of securing a permanent deal for loan star Andre Gomes in the summer.
The Portuguese midfielder joined on a season-long loan deal in the off-season and has been a revelation at Goodison Park.
Gomes has provided balance to the Everton midfield and is seen by many as Mikel Arteta’s late replacement.
However, the club are now in a pretty difficult position.
The club and the fans want the player to sign permanently but with no option in his loan deal, it could be difficult.
Now, Everton director of football Marcel Brands has given an update on their pursuit of a permanent deal for the player.
“The most important thing is that he wants to stay”
The Dutch dealmaker has claimed that a permanent deal is dependent on the player.
He also revealed that talks with Gomes will take place after January in hope of making the first step towards a summer deal.
“It is more depending on the player,” he explained to the Liverpool Echo.
“After the January, we will talk, first, with the player and the key is with him.
“If he likes to stay at Everton, which is what I hope, then that helps us a lot so it is important that we do everything to make him feel comfortable so that he is happy to stay here – and then I will try to do my job.
“We are happy with him but you never know what is going to happen. The most important thing is that he wants to stay.
“We have a loan for the whole season without clauses for Barcelona to get him back, so we are covered.
“But the most important thing, if you look at the future, is that the player is happy and if the player is happy to stay at Everton then we proceed side by side because we need the player to move on.”
