Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho speaks out on England squad omission

Gareth Southgate named his England squad for the latest set of friendlies on Thursday.

It is England’s final set of fixtures before the upcoming World Cup in November.

The Three Lions will face off with Italy on Friday the 23rd of September before then facing Germany a few days later.

Both Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford missed out on Southgate’s squad for United, whilst Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both got the call-up despite their lack of playing time.

Now, Jadon Sancho has had this to say on missing out for England:

“Yeah, 100% [make England squad], that is one of the targets,” Sancho said. “It’s unfortunate that I didn’t get the call-up, but I have to just keep focussing on myself and keep on working hard, week in and week out, that’s what I’ll do.”

Erik ten Hag also commented on Sancho and Rashford being omitted by Southgate:

“They have to train if they’re not there (on international duty), we will fill in the period really good, many players at 90 per cent are not there, we can go specific with them. That can be beneficial to continue the season. We know after this break there will be a game every three days,” Ten Hag said.

“It’s not up to me, it’s the manager of England. I cannot be in his seat, I don’t want to do it. They are progressing, they are starting the season well, they will progress even more, I am convinced of that, they will progress even more in the coming weeks and months. It’s up to the manager of England.”
