Manchester United vs Barcelona combined XI

Manchester United are set to clash with FC Barcelona on February 16.

Both sides head into the game in the midst of impressive seasons.

Manchester United look set to secure a top-four finish in 2022/23 and are in with an outside shot of challenging for the league title.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are top of La Liga with an 11-point lead over Real Madrid – though Los Blancos do have a game in hand.

Now, ahead of these two European heavyweights facing off, 101GreatGoals have put together a combined XI.

Manchester United & Barcelona XI

GK: Ter Stegen – Ter Stegen has been in superb form for Barcelona this season and is a key reason why they have shipped just seven league goals. And given he is much better on the ball than David de Gea, there is little debate here.

RB: Jules Kounde – Despite being a centre-back by trade, Jules Kounde has excelled in the right-back spot over the last few months. Diogo Dalot has also improved under Erik ten Hag, but the Frenchman’s defensive capabilities give him the edge.

CB: Lisandro Martinez – Lisandro Martinez has also impressed in a new league this term, with his ability to link play and bring the ball out from the back second to none.

LB: Luke Shaw – Though Shaw has played at centre-back a few times this season, his displays at left-back have been excellent. We saw this in action vs Leeds when he was moved out wide in the second half and produced a stunning cross for Marcus Rashford’s goal.

CDM: Casemiro – Whilst Sergio Busquets will go down as one of the greats, the Spaniard is past his best. Casemiro, meanwhile, has been arguably the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League this season.

CM: Pedri – Given Manchester United’s lack of depth in midfield, including Pedri was a no-brainer. The Spaniard has been compared to Xavi and Iniesta many times in his short career already but he is living up to the hype.

CM: Bruno Fernandes – Whilst not as impressive as he was when he first joined United, Bruno remains an excellent playmaker who is also capable of scoring goals.

RW: Ousmane Dembele – With Antony out injured and Jadon Sancho only just returning to form, Dembele’s inclusion is obvious. The Frenchman has had a hand in 10 goals in 18 La Liga appearances this campaign.

ST: Robert Lewandowski – Like at right-wing, Manchester United do not have much in the way of quality up front currently. As a result, the always impressive Lewandowski takes the centre-forward spot with little competition.

LW: Marcus Rashford – Rashford is currently in the midst of his best-ever campaign. He has scored 21 goals and provided eight assists in 34 games already this term and is well on the way to reaching his first 30-goal season.
