Manchester United to seek talks with Paul Pogba over fears he will run down his contract

Pogba & Manchester United

On the whole, Paul Pogba enjoyed a fairly decent 2020/21 campaign.

The Frenchman had a couple of injury issues, which saw him miss some games.

But when fit, for the most part, Pogba had been in decent form – with the midfielder having provided five assists and three goals in 26 Premier League ties.

Despite Pogba having a decent season, though, agent Mino Raiola claimed back in December that his client was unhappy at Old Trafford, and that it was ‘over’ for him at Manchester United:

This was followed by Raiola once again attempting to create speculation surrounding his client potentially joining Real Madrid.

Pogba to leave Man United for free?

All of this, of course, comes with Pogba having just over a year left on his current contract, which runs until the summer of 2022.

Regardless of the player, it is not an ideal situation for a club to have anyone with just a year remaining on their contract.

If Pogba does not sign a new deal, it may be worth the Red Devils selling him on this summer to at least try and recoup some money for him, rather than letting him leave for free at the end of next season.

The prospect of Pogba leaving on a free transfer is also seemingly something the Manchester powerhouse are fearful of.

As per a report from ESPN on Tuesday:

Manchester United will seek talks with Paul Pogba over fears the France international will run down his contract, sources have told ESPN.

If that does not work and Man United instead try to sell Pogba this summer, it does not look as though there are an awful lot of suitors at present.

ESPN claim that there has been no firm contact from any of Europe’s major clubs over the signing of Pogba.

They add that there remain doubts about whether Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus could afford the financial outlay needed to sign the Frenchman.

Those sides, however, along with PSG, would reportedly be interested in landing Pogba on a fee next year.
