Manchester City headed into the game looking to close the gap on themselves and Arsenal, who occupy top spot with a four-point lead after beating Tottenham on Saturday.
Manchester United, meanwhile, were looking to build on their recent upturn in form that has seen them pick up wins over Liverpool and Arsenal.
At the time of writing, the game has been totally dominated by Manchester City. The Sky Blues have maintained possession well and carved United open on several occasions already.
Man City were unlucky not to score in the opening three minutes when Erling Haaland had a goal-bound header cleared and David de Gea made a good save to deny Kevin De Bruyne.
However, City did eventually take the lead three minutes later when Joao Cancelo found an unmarked Phil Foden in the United box.
The man who should have been tracking Foden was Christian Eriksen. As a result, the Dane has come in for criticism online, with just some of the reaction shown below:
Eriksen shouldnβt be playing in big games especially in a midfield 2
