Manchester United issue concerning injury update on Marcus Rashford ahead of Newcastle clash

The Red Devils were hardly positive about the attacker

Manchester United have revealed that Marcus Rashford is a major doubt for the Red Devils’ clash with Newcastle United this weekend, with the Englishman still suffering from a knock.

Rashford pulled out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad after picking up an injury in Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Fulham, though it was not thought to be too serious.

However, a statement from the Red Devils themselves suggests that, despite Rashford returning to individual training, the mammoth clash for the top 4 may come too soon for the 26-year-old.

“Marcus Rashford has started his recovery at Carrington after sustaining an injury in our last fixture, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham. Marcus was able to get out on the grass at our training base on Monday,” the club revealed.

“But the Reds’ leading goalscorer could only take part in a small session, away from the main group. There was no ball work involved for the 25-year-old, who scored his 27th goal of United’s season with a long-range beauty against Real Betis.

“Rashford’s fitness will be a concern heading into the Premier League clash at Newcastle United on Sunday. United boss Erik ten Hag is likely to provide an update on Marcus in his pre-match press conference later this week”, they added.

Already without Casemiro through suspension, United could be without their two best players this season for the trip to St James’ Park, where a win for Eddie Howe’s side would see them leapfrog the Red Devils, and could even see Manchester United drop out of the top four, though they have two games in hand on Tottenham, who would replace them.

With Alejandro Garnacho also sidelined through injury, should Rashford be unavailable it could fall to lesser-used players this season to take his place, with both Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial options for Erik ten Hag, while Jadon Sancho could also return to the left.
