Manchester United duo criticised after Europa League escape

Two Manchester United stars have come in for heavy criticism after their last clash.

Manchester United faced off with Omonia on Thursday evening in a Europa League clash.

It was a tie the Red Devils were expected to win with ease. However, Manchester United went in a half-time 1-0 down thanks to a Karim Ansarifard goal.

This forced Erik ten Hag into making a double change, bringing on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Rashford scored twice and Martial once to hand Manchester United a 3-2 win on the day.

However, the fact Ten Hag had to make said changes in order to win was still pretty embarrassing for the players who started.

Jadon Sancho and Antony began the game as United’s wingers, and have since come in for criticism via Paul Scholes:

“He was right about the wingers being static,” Scholes said of Ten Hag’s post-match assessment. “Sancho never really runs in behind. He needs a fast left-back really or a centre forward to link up with and he hasn’t really got that at the moment.

“Antony on the other side as well, he doesn’t run in behind. He seems to be a bit of a one-trick pony.

“He’s always cutting inside and either passing back to the full-back or having a shot. You’re thinking he needs to develop a little bit. It’s still early days for him, we know that.”
