Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick reacts to Paul Pogba’s controversial comments

Ralf Rangnick spoke to the media on Friday ahead of Manchester United’s next outing.

The Reds Devils face off with Leicester City in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off. Ahead of the game, Rangnick held his latest pre-match press conference this afternoon.

The German would discuss a number of topics in the presser, including comments made by Paul Pogba during the international break, which saw the Frenchman claim that Manchester United’s season is ‘dead’, and also cast doubt over his future.

When quizzed on the comments on Friday, Rangnick stated: “I’ve got enough to do now to prepare the team for the next game, and I don’t think it makes sense to interpret or just judge what he has said in an interview, it doesn’t make sense, for me it’s only important to judge him.

“I heard he said he had played in different positions in the last couple of weeks. “Since the game against West Ham on 22 January we have lost three strikers since then, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani – who is injured again and will be out for the next couple of weeks, and on top of that if Paul was still injured himself, with Bruno or Scott McTominay missing, you have to play in a different role. This is normal.”

Manchester United vs Leicester City

Despite Pogba’s comments, Manchester United do have one thing left to fight for – European football.

The signings of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane were expected to take United to the next level and see them mount a proper title challenge.

Ultimately, though, the Red Devils have declined this season, being knocked out of all cup competitions already, with the chance to secure fourth place in the Premier League the only thing left to fight for.

Even finishing fourth seems like something of a long shot at this point, though. Manchester United are four points off Arsenal right now, with the Gunners also boasting a game in hand.
