Manchester United could have been dealt a transfer blow ahead of a summer move for one Barcelona defender after his manager’s recent comments.
Ernesto Valverde sat in front of the media to discuss the Catalan giants’ game with Roma this evening.
The side are looking to progress through to the next round of the Champions League by beating the Italian side who only just scraped past Shakhtar Donetsk.
Though, the game wasn’t the only subject at the press conference with a number of questions coming up, one of them on Samuel Umiti.
The French defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few months but he might not be on his way to England.
That is because Valverde has suggested that the player is perfectly happy at the Camp Nou.
He also added that he hopes the player will stick around for ‘many years’.

“My understanding is that he is happy here; we certainly are with him, and we hope that he stays here for many years,” he explained.
One problem that Barcelona do have is the potential departure of Andres Iniesta.
Despite signing a ‘lifetime contract’ only at the end of last year, he could well be leaving this summer.
The Premier League and a move to China are the two that have been touted but it’s not certain he will leave yet.
Though, when asked, Valverde admitted he has no strategy to make him stay.
“I don’t have any kind of strategy to persuade him [to stay],” he explained.
He’s been here for many years and knows how loved he is; he’ll make the decision that he thinks is best, and we’ll respect it.”
