Manchester City 4-0 Chelsea: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction & more

Manchester City and Chelsea clashed in the day’s final FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester City headed into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League earlier this week.

Chelsea also lost two players to injury during that match, so a weakened Chelsea team was expected on Sunday.

Plus, with Man City still chasing down Arsenal in the league, they too were expected to make some changes.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Thiago Silva and more started the game on the bench for their respective clubs.

And when all was said and done in Manchester, City came away with a comfortable win.

Chelsea controlled the game in the opening 10 minutes, with Manchester City seeing very little of the ball.

From here Man City began to gain control of the tie and cause the west Londoners problems. Cole Palmer had a great chance to make it 1-0 when he was slipped in by Aymeric Laporte, but Kepa mad a save.

City did not have to wait long for their goal, though, as Riyad Mahrez score a free-kick 23 minutes in after Lewis Hall committed a foul.

Kai Havertz then gifted City a second chance to score shortly after when he handled the ball in the box. Manchester City were awarded a penalty after a VAR review, which Julian Alvarez scored.

City’s onslaught continued in the first 45, with Phil Foden adding a third after 38 minutes. Kyle Walker made a run into the box before receiving the ball from Mahrez and squaring it to Foden for a tap-in.

Potter responded to going 3-0 down before the break by bringing off Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz, seemingly conceding defeat and resting his key players for the next game.

This allowed Manchester City to go into cruise control and see out the game with ease.

City won a penalty late in the tie, which Mahrez scored.
