A telling update on the future of FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has been forthcoming on Thursday evening.
The name of shot-stopper Costa, of course, has taken its place centre stage in the headlines for several weeks now.
This comes amid widespread reports that the 23-year-old has been added to the wishlist of one of European football’s biggest clubs - Manchester United.
With David de Gea’s contract due to expire next summer, and Costa in the midst of a stellar campaign to date, the powers that be at Old Trafford are understood to have identified Porto’s no.1 as a genuine target with a view to the future.
In turn, news of Costa putting pen-to-paper on fresh terms at the Estadio do Dragao will no doubt pique attentions across the Red Devils fanbase.
As confirmed in an official statement on Thursday evening, the Portuguese international has committed to the terms of a contract through the summer of 2027.
Perhaps even more significant, though, is the fact that Costa’s deal also contains a new release clause.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United, or any other interested parties for that matter, could well be forced to cough up €75 million, if they hope to land Porto’s spot-kick extraordinaire.
