An up-and-coming member of the first-team setup at Premier League giants Manchester United has sparked concern across the club’s fanbase on Thursday.
The player in question? Kobbie Mainoo.
For those not yet familiar with his name, Mainoo is an 18-year-old midfielder, widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents on the red half of Manchester.
After both starting and impressing in United’s pre-season opener against Arsenal last week, the England youth international was thrown in from the off once more in the early hours of Thursday, as Erik ten Hag’s troops went toe to toe with Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.
Just minutes into proceedings at NRG Stadium, however, Mainoo went to ground, owing to an unfortunate incident involving Casemiro and Rodrygo.
Unable to continue, the midfield prodigy was subsequently hauled off, to be replaced by Christian Eriksen.
Speaking to the media post-match, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Mainoo’s wellbeing was put to boss Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman, however, was unable to provide much of an insight into the situation, simply explaining that:
“I understand the question but you can never tell straight after a game. We have to wait for what it is. Hopefully he is not too bad and chances will come.”
And yet, as alluded to above, concern surrounding Mainoo’s fitness has nevertheless quickly spread across the day to date.
