Man United star 2nd, ahead of English winger: The 5 fastest players at Euro 2020

An insight into the paciest players at the European Championships has been turning heads online over the last 24 hours.

Euro 2020, to date, has of course proven a thrilling watch.

From Patrick Schick’s stunning long-range effort versus Scotland to the collective brilliance of Italy, the tournament’s first week of action has set the stage for a tense and deeply competitive battle for the title of European champions.

When it comes to individual performances, the likes of Alexander Isak, Manuel Locatelli and Gini Wijnaldum have stolen the headlines.

Which players, though, have set the pitch ablaze, courtesy of sheer rapid pace?

As outlined above, an insight into precisely this was last night forthcoming, courtesy of competition organisers UEFA.

European football’s governing body revealed not only which players have reached the highest speed at the Euros to date, but also the precise pace managed by each individual.

Sitting top? Explosive Italy wing-back Leonardo Spinazzola. The AS Roma man peaked at 33.8 kilometres per hour across the Azzurri’s opening two fixtures, a tournament best thus far.

Close behind Spinazzola, meanwhile, is Manchester United’s Dan James, at 33.5km/h. Another Manchester based star – Raheem Sterling – is next up, at 33.1km/h.

In 4th sits Switzerland danger-man Breel Embolo (32.8), just clear of another Italy star – Giovanni Di Lorenzo (32.6).

Scotland showdown

Of the quintet named above, only one will be in action this evening, in the form of England wide-man Sterling.

The Three Lions are set to welcome long-time foes Scotland to Wembley, aiming to make it two wins from two in Group D, and book their spot in the Euro 2020 knockout rounds.

Visitors Scotland, on the other hand, will head into proceedings eyeing an upset, to keep their competition hopes alive on the back of an opening day defeat to the Czech Republic.
