Man City win their UEFA ban appeal

The verdict is in: Manchester City have won their appeal against a 2-year UEFA ban in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

As confirmed by the CAS on Monday morning, Man City’s UEFA ban has been wholly removed.

Instead of a ban, City will now only pay a 10 million euro fine.

That means Man City will play in the Champions League next season.

The Sky Blues confirmed a second-place finish in the Premier League after their 5-0 win at Brighton last weekend.

Man City’s reaction

The club have posted the following reaction to the verdict on their club website:

Whilst Manchester City and its legal advisors are yet to review the full ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the Club welcomes the implications of today’s ruling as a validation of the Club’s position and the body of evidence that it was able to present.

The Club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered.

The race for Champions League qualification in the Premier League

With Man City now confirmed in next season’s Champions League, qualification spots are only up for grabs for the Premier League’s top-4.

Man United currently occupy 5th spot on 58 points.

However, if United beat Southampton at Old Trafford on Monday night, the Red Devils will move above both Leicester and Chelsea into 3rd.

Chelsea, after losing 3-0 at Sheffield United this past weekend, have 60 points.

Leicester, who lost 4-1 at Bournemouth on Sunday, have 59 points.

Meanwhile, Wolves have 55 points in 6th. Further down the table, Sheffield United have 54 points in 7th, and Tottenham have 52 points in 8th.
