Major development confirmed in Ricketts Family's Chelsea bid

Roman Abramovich has been in charge of Chelsea since 2003

An altogether significant development in the efforts of the Ricketts Family to take control of Chelsea Football Club has been confirmed late on Saturday evening.

And, in a blow to the droves of Blues supporters who have pushed back against such a bid, the news comes as a major boost to the takeover hopes of American businessman Tom Ricketts and his family.

As per a host of reliable sources, the owner of the Chicago Cubs has today seen his proposal to take Chelsea off the hands of Roman Abramovich backed by none other than Dan Gilbert.

Gilbert, another major player in the American sports scene, is the current owner of NBA franchise the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Even more significantly, though, the Quicken Loans co-founder is also understood to be one of the United States' wealthiest men.

Chelsea reporter Matt Law has since provided further insight into the situation, confirming that, even in the case that the Ricketts Family do not take the controlling stake in the Champions League holders, the ongoing bid for control at Stamford Bridge would remain led by the group.

'F**k off'

Word of the latest developments in the Ricketts' endeavours to secure ownership of Chelsea of course comes just hours on from the Blues' supporters once more making their feelings with the American group crystal clear.

Taking to the streets around Stamford Bridge ahead of the club's Premier League defeat to Brentford, the fans in question staged a protest against the American consortium, courtesy of loud chants and explicit banners:

Such backlash comes owing to both the struggles of the aforementioned Chicago Cubs and, more importantly, the unveiling of alleged Islamophobic emails sent by Joe Ricketts (Tom's father) back in 2019.
