Liverpool’s Sadio Mane outlines goal target for 2021/22

Liverpool’s Sadio Mane outlines goal target for 2021/22

Sadio Mane’s 2020/21

Liverpool, as a squad, had a pretty poor 2020/21 season overall.

This, of course, was partly due to the serious injury woes suffered amid the Covid-19-hit campaign.

But even without such struggles, a number of Liverpool’s stars underperformed considerably across the season.

One such player was Sadio Mane, who, despite hitting 11 goals and eight assists in the league, endured a pretty poor campaign by his standards.

And Mane is seemingly aware of this himself, having undergone tests back in May, to ensure that nothing was physically wrong with him.

Mane’s 2021/22 goal target

Now, in a recent interview, the gifted attacker has opened up on his disappointment with how last season played out:

“I was so disappointed with last season, and passionately so, as I thought I could have done more. Whereas I might have been scoring between 18 and 22 goals a season, then on that occasion it was no longer the case so, of course, I was going to be disappointed.”

In the same interview, though, Mane also outlined his goal target for the current campaign.

The Senegal international has so far played three Premier League games for Liverpool in 2021/22.

The Reds would win two and draw one of these outings, with Mane having opened his goal-scoring account in the 2nd match of the season vs Burnley.

And now, the former Southampton man has suggested that he wants to score 30 goals over the course of the term ahead:

“I want to score goals, and set up team-mates, even to score 30 goals.

“Why not? The more the better as far as I’m concerned and my ambition for the team is to win trophies. Everybody is hungry for that.”
