The 2023/24 UEFA Europa League group stage draw took place at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, on Friday 1 September.
The rules of the draw were as follows:
“Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn in the same group.
“In the case of associations with two representatives, these clubs will be paired so that their matches kick off at different times.
“In the case of associations with three representatives, only two clubs will be paired.
“In the case of associations with one representative in the UEFA Europa League group stage and one representative in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage, these clubs will also be paired so that their matches kick off at different times.”
Liverpool finished 5th in the Premier League last season to secure a place in pot 1, with Brighton in pot 3 after securing 6th place last term. But as mentioned above, the two sides could not be drawn in the same group.
West Ham, meanwhile, secured a place in the competition after winning the Europa Conference League last season.
The Hammers were drawn in Group A alongside Olympiacos, Freiburg and TSC Bačka Topola.
Liverpool were drawn in Group E alongside LASK, Union SG and Toulouse.
Brighton were handed the toughest group, facing off with Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens in Group B.
