Liverpool team news & predicted line-up vs Leeds

Here is the latest Liverpool team news ahead of their clash with Leeds.

Liverpool head into the game looking to bounce back from their rather embarrassing 1-0 loss vs Nottingham Forest last time out.

That defeat means Liverpool begin the weekend 8th in the Premier League, with 16 points from 11.

If they beat Leeds, Liverpool will move two points behind 5th-place Chelsea, as long as the Blues do not beat Brighton.

Luis Diaz

Luis Diaz was a key figure in Liverpool’s side for much of 2022.

However, the Colombian suffered a knee injury during a 3-2 loss to Arsenal earlier in October and is not expected to return to full fitness until December, at which point the World Cup will be on.

This has left Liverpool’s left-hand side rather thin on the ground, meaning more minutes for Fabio Carvalho seems likely.

Joel Matip

Like Diaz, Matip was injured in the 3-2 loss to Arsenal earlier in October.

Klopp has previously said that he hopes Matip can return for the final few games before the World Cup: “Everything is going well, but he needs a bit of time. I think with him, it will be tight until the World Cup break; hopefully, in the last two or three games, he might be in contention, but I don’t know yet.”

On Friday, Klopp confirmed Matip remains sidelined ahead of Leeds.

Ibrahima Konate

Konate sustained a muscle issue in the 7-1 defeat Rangers, having previously been sidelined for the opening two months of the season.

However, he has returned to full training this week and was an unused sub vs Ajax.

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota was expected to fill in for Diaz on Liverpool’s left flank whilst the South American was out.

However, Jota picked up a calf injury vs Manchester City and will now miss the World Cup.

Klopp said: “He will miss the World Cup. [It’s a] pretty serious injury in the calf muscle and now the recovery process starts. We can say that because he will not be in for a long time; we talk about months.”

Thiago

Thiago missed Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest with an ear infection and was out vs Ajax with the same issue.

The midfielder is back to face Leeds, however.

Naby Keita

Naby Keita has not played for Liverpool since the Community Shield defeat of Manchester City at the end of July.

Keita was ill before sustaining a muscle problem.
