Liverpool ‘preparing an offer’ for Arsenal target in squad overhaul latest

The Reds are looking to beat their Premier League rivals to the punch this summer

Liverpool are ready to submit an offer for Southampton star Romeo Lavia as they look to beat Arsenal to the signing of the Belgian teenager this summer, it has emerged.

The Reds have undergone massive changes in midfield already this summer, signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a deal worth a potential £55m and shelling out £60m for Hungarian midfield star Dominik Szoboszlai as they look to bounce back from a disappointing fifth-placed finish last season.

They aren’t set to stop there though, with at least one more midfielder and a centre-back both on their radar before the start of the new season.

To that end, they have identified Southampton’s Lavia as a potential solution, but they have been warned that he will cost any interested party around £50m this summer.

The Belgian teenager has also garnered interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, while Manchester City have a buy-back option set at £50m which comes into effect next summer.

The midfielder, who was a central part of a relegated Saints side last season, ‘is likely to leave Southampton’ this summer amid such widespread interest, and it appears to be Arsenal and Liverpool that lead the race.

To that end, TalkSPORT claim that the Reds are ‘preparing an opening offer’ for Lavia, though it is unclear what that bid will consist of and is likely to come in well below the Saints’ valuation.

His transfer is yet further complicated by Premier League winners Manchester City, who are thought to have a 20% sell-on clause in Lavia’s contract, which will force Southampton to hold out for a higher fee for their latest star.
