Liverpool dealt major blow ahead of Real Madrid

Liverpool and Real Madrid face off later this month.

The duo will go head-to-head for a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2022/23 Champions League.

Madrid have been in much better form than the Reds this season, with Liverpool currently say 10th in the Premier League.

However, Liverpool fans may have hoped for a boost heading into the game.

Los Blancos were dealt blows recently when goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and striker Karim Benzema became injury doubts, while defender Eder Militao is still recovering from a fitness issue.

But unfortunately for Liverpool, said injuries do not look to be that serious. Madrid are due to face Al Ahly in the semi-final of the Club World Cup on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game, Carlo Ancelotti gave an update on the three aforementioned players, and provided hope that all of them will be available soon.

Ancelotti stated that Benzema, Courtois and Militao are ‘on the list’ to be included in the squad for Saturday, but only on one condition: “The three are on the list, they have stayed in Madrid to continue with the treatment, and if they are well they will return on Saturday.”

This suggests that even if they are not cleared for the weekend, they will all be available on Tuesday the 21st of February.
