Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has, on Thursday, revealed his humorous nickname for summer arrival Alexis Mac Allister.
Argentine international Mac Allister, of course, opted to take his talents to Anfield early last month.
Fresh off a stellar campaign which saw him dazzle in leading both Brighton to a first-ever European berth, and Argentina to World Cup glory, the 24-year-old was identified as a prime midfield target by Jurgen Klopp.
The powers that be on the red half of Merseyside, in turn, swooped decisively, to strike a £35 million deal with their counterparts at The Amex.
Mac Allister, since, has gone on to become acquainted with his new surroundings, ahead of what all associated with Liverpool will hope proves a fruitful debut campaign at Anfield.
And, as alluded to above, amid such efforts to settle into things on Merseyside, the Argentine has already come in for a rather bizarre new nickname.
The nickname in question comes by way of Jurgen Klopp, who, speaking to the media on Thursday, revealed that he has already begun referring to Mac Allister as ‘Gary’:
‘I was immediately thinking about nicknames and I thought it would be a great nickname for Alexis... Gary [McAllister]!,’ the German explained.
This, for those not aware, comes as something of a tribute to Gary McAllister, who spent two years on Liverpool’s books back in the early 2000s.
