Lionel Messi's status for Argentina vs Venezuela confirmed

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has provided an update on the wellbeing of star man Lionel Messi, ahead of his side's latest upcoming pair of fixtures.

The Albiceleste are primed to return to action on Friday evening.

In the first of two World Cup qualifiers slated for the coming week, Scaloni's troops will play host to Venezuela at the Bombonera.

In the buildup to the Buenos Aires showdown, however, one member of the hosts' setup to have been labelled as a doubt came in the form of the aforementioned Lionel Messi.

This came with veteran attacker Messi having been forced to sit out Paris Saint-Germain's 3-0 drubbing at the hands of AS Monaco at the weekend, owing to a bout of illness.

In a boost for all associated with Argentina, though, speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night's action, Scaloni confirmed that his captain is fit and available for selection.

Fellow PSG star Angel Di Maria, on the other hand, remains a doubt to feature.

Qatar bound

For those not aware, Argentina's upcoming fixtures versus Venezuela and Ecuador are actually, in the grand scheme of things, altogether unimportant.

The Albiceleste have in fact already booked their spot at this year's Qatar World Cup, sitting 2nd in the CONMEBOL qualification table behind only arch rivals Brazil.

To this point in their campaign, Scaloni and co. have remained unbeaten across a full 15 fixtures, racking up ten wins and five draws en route to a current tally of 35 points.
