An update on the future of FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi has emerged on Friday.
Messi’s Barcelona future
Lionel Messi’s future has of course been a major talking point in the world of football for some time now.
Following Barcelona’s hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, Messi attempted to depart the Camp Nou via a clause in his contract.
However, after months of back and forth, the Argentine eventually opted to stay put for 2020/21.
But, despite being set to see out the remainder of the campaign with Barca, Messi’s future beyond the summer remains unclear.
Messi closing in on Barcelona stay
Two of the teams most heavily linked with the veteran attacker over the last year or so have been Manchester City and PSG, with it even reported earlier this week that the latter had offered Messi a two-year deal.
However, as mentioned above, a fresh report regarding the Argentine’s future has emerged in the English press on Friday.
And, if the claim from the generally reliable Times proves true, then it appears as though Messi will be plying his trade at the Camp Nou for at least one more campaign.
It is suggested that the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner looks set to stay at Barcelona, following positive talks between the club and his father.
The Times go on to claim that Messi is close to agreeing a 10-year deal with the Blaugrana.
Given the fact that he is already 33, such a deal would of course not solely revolve around matters on the pitch.
As the report explains, the decade-long contract would allow Messi to stay in Spain in the short-term, fulfil his longer-term ambition of playing in MLS, and then return to Barcelona in an executive role.
