Karim Benzema joins club icon Raul in Real Madrid history books

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has, on Sunday evening, continued to etch his name indellibly into the fabled history books of Los Blancos.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops, of course, are currently locked in action.

After watching Barcelona get the better of Getafe earlier in the day, Real made the trip to San Mames, desperate for all three points in their bid to close the six-point gap to their Clasico rivals atop the La Liga table.

And, as things stand on Sunday evening, this is precisely what the European champions are on their way to doing.

This comes with Real in possession of a 1-0 advantage, courtesy of a moment of brilliance on the part of the aforementioned Karim Benzema.

After seeing the ball drop behind him courtesy of Marco Asensio’s knockdown in the Athletic Club penalty area, the Ballon d’Or holder did wonderfully to slot home on the swivel with his left foot:

As alluded to above, though, Benzema’s latest goal did not only prove significant in putting his side in front on Sunday night.

In addition, it saw the Frenchman continue to carve his name indellibly into the history books in Spain’s capital.

This comes with it having since been revealed that Benzema has joined club legend Raul Gonzalez as Real Madrid’s 2nd highest La Liga goalscorer of all-time:
