Juan Mata sends message to Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes after Southampton

Juan Mata has sent a message to his former teammate after he scored a key goal for Manchester United.

Manchester United beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday afternoon thanks to a Bruno Fernandes goal.

It was the Portuguese’s first of the season and one he really needed following an average 2021/22.

Fernandes netted 10 in 46 last term, which was 18 goals fewer than his 2020/21 tally.

However, speaking after the match on Sunday, Fernandes was confident he can start scoring more now he has the first goal under his belt:

“I think in the first half we had some control, we created more chances than them,” Fernandes told MUTV.

“In the second half, we did well in the first 15 minutes, obviously after we scored the goal we dropped a little bit and give much space to them to build from the back, but the first 15 minutes from us was really intense, really good and that’s why we got the goal.

“Even when we score, we should be a little bit more proactive and try to play more. I said many times don’t worry, when the first one comes, I will score much more. Hopefully I can do it and help the team, that is the most important thing.”

Elsewhere, former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata showed his support to Fernandes following his goal on Saturday.

Replying to Fernandes’ Instagram post reacting to the win, Mata said: “You deserve it,” as well as posting a love heart emoji.
