Jorginho reveals Chelsea’s toughest opponent & drops future hint

Jorginho has revealed who Chelsea’s toughest opponent is whilst also hinting at his future plans.

Chelsea’s 2021/22 started out in very promising fashion. Thomas Tuchel and co. were, as expected, competing with Liverpool and Manchester City in the early stages of the campaign.

However, Reece James and Ben Chilwell suffered long-term injuries that killed off any hope the Blues had of mounting a title challenge.

This resulted in Chelsea finishing 3rd in the league, a full 19 points off Manchester City.

Now though, Chilwell and James are back whilst Chelsea are making smart moves in the market.

And ahead of the 2022/23 season getting underway, Jorginho has stated that Chelsea are their own toughest opponent:

“Every year I repeat the same thing: We need to focus on today. We have so many things to improve on from last season. We are motivated and the goal for me is clear, win the first game of the season.

“Chelsea’s toughest opponent is ourselves. If we don’t fight, if we don’t do better than last year, if we don’t improve, if we’re not humble enough to recognise what went wrong and do better, then what are we doing?”

Elsewhere, Jorginho discussed his former Napoli teammate Kalidou Koulibaly joining him at Napoli.

When doing so, the Italian suggested he will be at Chelsea for another four seasons:

“Me and Kalidou Koulibaly hope to play four more seasons together (laughs). I think it was a very good purchase for Chelsea. He is not only a strong player who will help us a lot on the pitch, but also in the dressing room.

“Kalidou Koulibaly is an exceptional guy. During the negotiations for his transfer, I called him and pushed for him to come to Chelsea. And I’m very happy it happened.”
