After losing to Brighton at Old Trafford for the first time ever on the opening weekend, Manchester United collapsed at the hands of the Brentford press in gameweek two and found themselves 4-0 down at half-time.
Following the dismal showing vs the Bees, Erik ten Hag demanded his player run 13.8km the very next day. That distance is the amount Brentford out-ran their United counterparts on the day.
And now, with United having won three on the bounce since then, Jadon Sancho has been speaking about the punishment:
“We had to do it. We shouldn’t have been losing like that,” Sancho admitted. “Everyone just took it as extra running and more fitness and after that, we just got on with it. “We felt we just had to wake up after the Brentford game and we have three wins in a row now, so we have to keep it up and get more wins.”
Manchester United vs Arsenal
Manchester United head into the Arsenal game having bounced back from their early-season disappointments.
Following their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford, Manchester United have since beaten Liverpool, Southampton and most recently, Leicester City.
United also look a much more solid unit at the back now Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are their main centre-back pairing.
And after becoming on for a second time on Thursday, it is expected we will see Casemiro handed his first start of the season vs Arsenal.
This is something Ten Hag seemed to confirm when asked if the Brazilian is ready to be unleashed on Arsenal: “I think so. He is used to playing big games.”
