Ivan Toney racially abused after Brentford’s draw with Arsenal

Brentford clashed with Arsenal in a Premier League match on Saturday.

Arsenal headed into the game looking to extend their lead atop of the Premier League to eight points.

Leandro Trossard came off the bench to put Arsenal 1-0 up shortly after the hour-mark.

However, Arsenal could not hold onto their lead and Ivan Toney scored and equaliser late on.

A Brentford player was offside in the build-up to the goal, but VAR did not spot it.

Now, on Sunday, Brentford have released a statement confirming Toney was racially abused on social media after the game:

The Bees said: “Immediately after Brentford’s game against Arsenal, Ivan Toney received a barrage of abusive, racist direct messages via his Instagram account. We are disgusted and saddened that Ivan has had to deal with this yet again. We will not tolerate it and we will do everything we can to pursue the individuals involved. Ivan was subject to similar abuse in October last year, and the perpetrator is now facing the consequences in court.
