Romelu Lukaku’s Belgium faced off with Croatia on Thursday evening.
After a poor showing vs Morocco last time out, Belgium needed to beat Croatia to ensure they earned a spot in the last-16.
However, the Red Devils were once again poor from the off, with Roberto Martinez opting to bring on Romelu Lukaku at half-time of the match.
Lukaku was suffering with an injury ahead of the World Cup and was unable to start in any of Belgium’s three group games.
And when he came on vs Croatia, it was clear Lukaku was not at 100 per cent.
It did not take long for Lukaku to get his first big chance after coming on. Yannick Carrasco burst into the box, the ball dropped to Lukaku on his weaker right foot with the goalkeeper out of position. He hit his effort first time, but it crashed off the post and stayed out.
After missing several big chances for his country in a game they drew 0-0 and subsequently crashed out of the World Cup, Ivan Rakitic, who was not called up for the Croatia squad, has trolled Lukaku online:
“Let’s go Lukaku! We have to pay him a month of vacation in Split. Let’s go!” he said in a video posted on Instagram.
Croatia now face Japan in the last-16 on Monday, whilst Belgium are heading home.
