Ivan Rakitic: How wife Raquel Mauri saved him from the Barcelona terror attack

Ivan Rakitic & Barcelona

Barcelona was the scene of a terror attack a month ago.

The incident occurred as a van plowed through pedestrians on Las Ramblas – the well-known street in the centre of the city.

Croatian international Ivan Rakitic has recently spoken to Goal.com about how close he was to the terror attack.

Rakitic has revealed how his wife, Raquel Mauri, managed to keep him and his family safe.

Over 130 people were injured and 13 people were killed in the terror attack.

‘I was very close’

Ivan Rakitic has since revealed his story from that fateful day in Barcelona:

During recent terrorist attack in Barcelona I was very close.

I went downtown with my family and we prepared to go to that place the attack happened. I wanted to go there but my wife said it was a nice day and to let the kids play in the park outside our house. Thank God I listened to her.

We were three or four minutes away from going there. And as soon as people heard of the attack, many friends and family started to call me to check how we were.

Dia de familia, lo mas grande que tengo en mi vida.!!! Os quiero muchísimo.!!! @raquel_mauri ❤️‍‍‍#lafamiliaunidajamasseravencida
