Ilkay Gundogan on the possibility of Erling Haaland joining Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan has spoken out on the possibility of Erling Haaland joining Manchester City.

A series of reports concerning a potential Haaland to Manchester City transfer have emerged over the course of March.

Firstly, 101  covered claims that Pep Guardiola and co. already have a deal in place that would see a total outlay of £100m splashed out for Haaland’s services in the summer. This would consist of his £64m release clause, as well as a significant signing on fee to both the striker and agent Mino Raiola.

It was then reported that Manchester City were ready to make Haaland the highest-paid player in England, should he join from Borussia Dortmund, with a wage in excess of £500,000-a-week touted.

In turn, now, Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has spoken out regarding the Haaland saga whilst away on international duty.

When asked if the Norwegian and Pep Guardiola would work well together at the Etihad, the former BVB midfielder replied: “I think: Yes, [Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola would work at #ManCity].

“Haaland has the quality for every top-team.”

Then, when quizzed on City signing Haaland despite Guardiola’s preference for a false 9 for much of the season to date, Gundogan stated: “It’s a long time ago that we played with a classical striker.

“I think he is a player with big qualities who fits into every team.”
