Philippe Coutinho has sent a message to former side Liverpool, ahead of the final gameweek of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Coutinho is currently on the books of Aston Villa. The Brazilian joined Villa on loan from FC Barcelona but is now set to make a permanent move to the Midlands this summer.

The Villans have enjoyed a decent season, with Steven Gerrard no doubt eager to improve next term after his first summer transfer window.

Before that, though, Aston Villa must face off with Manchester City on Sunday. The game is of little importance to the visitors who have nothing to play for at the Etihad.

However, it is a huge fixture for Manchester City and Liverpool. If the former win, they will be crowned Premier League champions. But, if City lose or draw and Liverpool beat Wolves, then the Reds will be champions.

As a result, Liverpool's fans are no doubt hoping that their former star can do a job for the club against the Sky Blues.

However, Coutinho has this weekend been keen to make clear that he is not heading into Sunday's game with Liverpool on his mind.

Previewing the Etihad clash, the 29-year-old explained: "It's a great game to play. But we want to finish well against a great club, ad that's it. We always want to improve and do well and finish as high as we can.

"I only care about my new club. I want to play well for them. I have had a lot of messages from Liverpool fans on social media but I don't look at it that much anyway. My focus is only on the games we have.

"City are one of the best teams in the world. It's always difficult to play them. But we have played them before and done well and competed throughout the game. That is what we want to do this time and compete on the same level."
