Gundogan hits out at Jamie Carragher’s Erling Haaland comments

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has responded to Jamie Carragher over comments he made about Erling Haaland signing for the wrong club when he joined the Sky Blues.

Manchester City signed Erling Haaland last summer and paid £51m for his services.

Since then, the Norwegian has scored 31 goals from 28 appearances in all competitions. He has netted 25 in the Premier League alone and remains on course to break the all-time record in that competition for a single season.

However, with the champions stuttering by their sky-high standards from a team perspective – despite being firmly in another title race – Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher suggested Haaland might have selected the ‘wrong club’.

Now, Ilkay Gundogan has responded to those claims:

“If you score 25 goals in 20 games, you fit into a team!” The German stated.

“Our game has become a bit different because of Erling’s qualities. Both he and the side have to adjust to that. We’ve already had outstanding games in this campaign, and I can remember that a few weeks ago everything was hyped up.

“That goes for everyone. Everyone has to look in the mirror and know that they have to step it up a notch and, if we want to close the gap on Arsenal, then we cannot afford any more mistakes.”
