Granit Xhaka outlines his plans for future away from Arsenal

Granit Xhaka outlines his plans for future away from Arsenal

Xhaka close to departing this summer

It is safe to say that Granit Xhaka has not always been flavour of the month at Arsenal since he joined in 2016.

The Swiss captain was seemingly Roma bound in the summer, to link up with Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital.

However, a potential deal fell through over a failure to agree on a fee, and as a result, Xhaka signed a new contract at the club.

His new deal will see him remain at the club until 2025, representing a two-year extension to his current deal at The Emirates, and will see Xhaka remain a Gunner until he is 32.

The Swiss midfielder is currently injured, a knee problem sustained in the north London derby, and is not expected to feature again in 2021, but will return to Arsenal’s midfield with a starting berth most likely come the New Year.

But what next?

Xhaka outlines intentions to return to Germany

Now, speaking to The Borussia Monchengladbach podcast on RP, Xhaka is showing no desire to leave the north London club any time soon.

Xhaka spent 4 years at ‘Gladbach between leaving Basel in 2012 and joining Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in 2016, and made it clear that the German outfit still have a special place in his heart.

Further still, he outlined his intentions to return there after his Arsenal stint.

The 29-year-old revealed:

“I’ve just renewed my contract, which will continue for two and a half years. Then I’ll be 32. And if Max Eberl is ready to take me back at 32, my door will be open too, ”

Will Xhaka remain a mainstay in the Arsenal side until then, or will Mikel Arteta be looking to move him on in order to freshen up his midfield further still?
