The Blues are understood to have coughed up £62m for the full-back, beating off competition from Manchester City at the time.

Owing to Ben Chilwell’s injury woes, Cucurella has played the majority of Chelsea’s games at left-back this season.

However, it is fair to say that he has not been at his best and has received a fair bit of criticism.

Cucurella after he was heavily criticised for his performance against Manchester City last month and again vs West Ham last week.

Now, Graham Potter has spoken out on the criticism of the Spaniard:

“He doesn’t look like my son does he?! You can’t use that one,” Potter jokingly said referring to old jibes about Mount and Lampard.

“Whether it is fair or not, that doesn’t matter. The supporters are entitled to their opinion and voice because without them there is no football club.

“In an ideal world, you want everybody going in the same way, supporting everybody but that’s not the reality. That’s not where we are at.

“I think as professionals we have to accept that. We have to work as hard as we can to change opinions.
