Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday, Souness once again voiced concerns about Martinez’s suitability to the Premier League and warned Casemiro was ‘not a great player.’
However, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has now hit out at his fellow pundit.
Ferdinand says Graeme Souness can’t be watching United matches after the Liverpool legend played down the impact of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez.
Ferdinand said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel: “Oh come on Graeme, man. He’s not watched the games.
“He’s obviously not watching Martinez because one of his main attributes when you speak to anyone who knows the game is he’s great with the ball, he’ll take it anywhere, he can pass, he’s tenacious, aggressive, can defend.
“To say he can’t pass… and he called Casemiro a steady Eddie? He’s won five Champions Leagues bruv and been integral to all of them. He can’t be a steady Eddie.
Whilst Casemiro took some time to integrate into this Manchester United side, Martinez hit the ground running and has been one of their most consistent options.
Barring the 6-3 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, Martinez has looked solid in every game he has played for the Red Devils.
He also did an excellent job of covering for Harry Maguire’s shortcomings in the recent win over West Ham.
