Interim Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has, on Friday, sent something of a welcome message to incoming replacement Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino’s imminent arrival in west London, of course, has long represented the worst-kept secret in English football.

As a campaign which can be aptly described as nothing short of a nightmare from a Chelsea perspective inches ever closer to its conclusion, the powers that be at Stamford Bridge have decided on former Tottenham headmaster Pochettino as the man to steady the ship.

The Argentine, in turn, could be officially unveiled as the Blues’ new boss as early as next week.

Safe to say, though, that ‘Poch’ faces nothing short of a monumental job in turning things around, faced with a bloated squad, packed with overpaid and under-performing stars.

Speaking to the media on Friday, the subject of his soon-to-be replacement on the touchline in England’s capital was therefore put to the aforementioned Frank Lampard.

“I think it is a fantastic job because it is the Chelsea job. When I took it the first time I came in, I knew I got it because a lot of top managers didn’t want it [because of the transfer ban], I know that for a fact.

“I enjoyed the process and I enjoyed coming in and I wish the new manager well. I don’t know [if it will be hard], that’s his problem.”
