A former teammate of Mikel Arteta has explained why the Spaniard has done so well at Arsenal.
Arteta took the reins at the Emirates from Unai Emery and was able to guide Arsenal to an FA Cup triumph during his first season in charge.
Since then things have been somewhat up and down but, for the most part, Arsenal look to be heading in the right direction under the Spaniard.
Now, former Everton star and teammate of Arteta Manuel Fernandes has explained why Arteta is doing so well.
When asked if it surprised him to see Arteta go on and become a Premier League coach, Fernandes responded:
“No,” he said. “With the way he thought about football, it always felt like he could do that. “He’s very intelligent. He was a classic No.6 in Spain, but he played almost as a right-winger in England even though he is not quick or really physical. “He did that because he is clever, because his passing was so good, his technique and his brain. He thought differently from the rest.

Arsenal’s blip
Though Arsenal have had a stellar 2021/22 overall, the Gunners suffered a fairly major blip on Monday.
Arsenal would lose 3-0 at the hands of Crystal Palace, meaning they ended the gameweek outside of the top-four due to Tottenham beating Newcastle 5-1 on Sunday.
Arsenal do still have a game in hand on Spurs so they can retake 4th place with a win or draw in that match, but the loss to Palace could prove fatal to Arsenal’s top-four dreams.
