Explanation provided for Liverpool’s ‘Man United’ look vs Bologna

An explanation for the new look kit donned by Premier League giants Liverpool during the club’s friendly meeting with Bologna this afternoon has been provided.

Jota & Mane on target

Jurgen Klopp’s men were back in action a short time ago.

Amid the club’s efforts to ramp up their preparations for the fast-approaching new season, Liverpool agreed to play out a pair of hour-long friendlies, versus Serie A outfit Bologna.

The 2nd is currently underway, with the Reds leading by a goal to nil thanks to Takumi Minamino’s close-range finish.

The earlier of the two fixtures, meanwhile, also went according to plan for Klopp and co. A solid display eventually saw the Merseysiders emerge on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline.

Early strikes on the part of Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane proved the difference, with further encouraging news having been forthcoming in the form of the returning Virgil van Dijk managing 40 minutes without a hitch.

Reds’ new look

Whilst the performances of the club’s star men versus Bologna will no doubt prove to be the key takeaway for Jurgen Klopp on Thursday, though, others could not help but focus their attentions on the unusual kit donned by Liverpool.

This came with the Merseyside giants having taken to the pitch in their traditional red home jersey, accompanied by black shorts and socks – generally utilised when on the road.

The surprise look even gave rise to suggestions that the Reds’ attire resembled that of fierce rivals Manchester United.

As outlined above, though, this evening, an explanation for the mixup has been forthcoming.

Taking to social media, Liverpool released a statement, confirming that ‘an unexpected clash of kits’ resulted in match officials deeming the stone shirt which the English giants intended to wear ‘too indistinguishable’ from Bologna’s white jerseys.

‘Logistics’, in turn, meant that Klopp’s men were ‘unable to change into full home strip ahead of the games’.
