Word stemming from the media on Monday suggests that Andreas Pereira could have a role to play back at Manchester United under the watch of Erik ten Hag.
Midfielder Pereira, of course, is currently in the midst of a loan spell away from Old Trafford.
After failing to make the grade in Serie A with Lazio in 2020/21, the Brazilian sealed a fresh departure last summer, linking up with heavyweights Flamengo in his home country of Brazil.
And, on the back of an impressive start to life in Rio de Janeiro, it had long appeared as though Pereira's time on Man United's books was, in turn, primed to come to an end upon the campaign's conclusion.
This came amid widespread claims that a €14 million deal had been struck to make his Flamengo switch permanent.
This past weekend, however, fresh reports stemming from Brazil pointed towards the transfer being primed for collapse.
Amid reduced playing time for the 26-year-old, followed by an alleged issue with his ownership rights, the reliable Globo revealed the news that the board at the Maracana had come to the decision not to pursue a permanent transfer after all.
Ten Hag keen?
So, what next for the Red Devils loanee?
The widespread assumption upon news of Pereira's departure collapsing was that those in a position of power on the red half of Manchester would simply seek out another suitor for the South American ahead of next season.
If the latest word stemming from the media over the last 24 hours is anything to go by, however, then this, in fact, may yet not prove to be the case.
As per Rob Dawson of ESPN, should Pereira be forced to return to base at Old Trafford this summer, then he could well be afforded a new lease of life at the club.
This comes with incoming boss Erik ten Hag keen to afford the 26-year-old the opportunity to prove his talents, ahead of a potential role in United's first-team setup in 2022/23.
