Erik ten Hag outlines what Antony will bring to Manchester United

Manchester United signed Ajax winger Antony in the final week of the summer 2022 transfer window.

The deal is for an initial fee of €95m (£81.3m) - which will be the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.

The deal includes a potential €5m (£4.27m) of add-ons - making him United’s second most expensive signing, ahead of the £80m paid for defender Harry Maguire.

Antony, 22, scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 appearances for Ajax.

He is a natural right winger and is therefore expected to compete for a starting berth with Jadon Sancho.

Antony was not signed in time to feature vs Leicester City on Thursday, but there is hope among United fans that they will see the Brazilian action on Sunday vs Arsenal.

Now, ahead of that game, Erik ten Hag has outlined what Antony will bring to Manchester United:

“He [Antony] will bring temperament and creativity. Also for him it is a new start and he has to adapt to the team, to the Premier League and to the high intensity, but I am sure he will adapt.

“He can deal with that [pressure]. He lives for football and enjoys it. He has proved himself already he has been in the Champions League, Brazilian national team and an Olympic gold medallist.”

Manchester United face Arsenal at 4:30 on Sunday and Ten Hag has also been discussing the two club’s rivalry: “Top games, big history between the two clubs, both with incredibly good players and good managers but it is now about Sunday, it is new, we have to build a future.”
