The latest England Under-21 squad has been announced this morning and there have been some notable inclusions and omissions.

The young Lions are due to face Italy and Germany in friendlies.

101 Great Goals takes a look at the headlines from the latest squad announcement.

No Emile Smith-Rowe

One of the most notable absentees from the list is Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe.

The forward has missed the Gunners’ last two matches and played just 48 competitive minutes this season.

According to the Athletic, he is suffering from a groin injury which is due to growth.

But at this stage, the club are having to carefully manage the situation.

Tottenham trio make the cut

Tottenham Hotspur have had three players named in Lee Carsley’s squad.

Oliver Skipp, Ryan Sessegnon and Djed Spence have all been included.

Skipp has been out of action since nearly the start of the year.

The midfielder picked up a bad hip injury and then a nasty foot injury which has kept him out since the start of February.

Spence has also been struggling for game time recently having made just one appearance as a sub.

Skipp and Spence will both be hopeful of getting some game time finally over the next week.

Although for Sessegnon, he has featured much more regularly than the other two, making five appearances.

Gallagher forced to settle for Under-21s

Connor Gallagher failed to make the cut for the senior team which comes as no surprise considering his lack of game time.

The 22-year-old has struggled for game time since returning to Chelsea.

He has made just three starts across 8 matches for the Blues.

After a hugely promising campaign at Crystal Palace last term, he will feel very disappointed not to have kicked on yet and with his World Cup hopes starting to fade.
