Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has confirmed that he is 'fine', after being at the centre of a frightening ordeal in his home country of Brazil late on Thursday night.

The incident in question is understood to have taken place outside New Trips nightclub in the city of Sao Paulo.

As per Brazilian outlet O Liberal, after departing the venue around 3am local time, Emerson stopped to take a photo with an off-duty policeman.

Upon the pair coming together, though, they were approached by another individual, who pointed a gun at the Tottenham star, demanding that he hand over all valuable belongings on his person.

Little did the thief know that Emerson was stood next to a member of the police, who, from here, is said to have opened fire at the individual in his attempts to flee the scene.

One of no fewer than 29 bullets fired, in turn, struck the assailant in the back, resulting in him being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery.

Emerson, accompanied by his father, then travelled to a local police station to file a report.

And now, as alluded to above, the 23-year-old has moved to provide a public update on his wellbeing, on the back of what no doubt proved an altogether traumatic experience.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Emerson assured that he is 'fine', adding that he will soon provide further insight into his side of Thursday's events:

“I will speak shortly about the event... thank you for everyone's concern thank god I'm fine.”
